Fatima on Burnt Orange

In 1917, three shepherd children in a quiet corner of Portugal reported seeing the Virgin Mary in a field. The ground was limestone, dry, porous, unable to hold water. No spring had ever run there.

In 1921, when the bishop ordered wells dug at the site of the apparitions — expecting nothing — water surged up from ground everyone had assumed was bone dry. It has flowed ever since.

This necklace carries that water.

Sealed inside a small gemstone bottle, the Fátima water was collected directly from the sanctuary's 15-tap fountain, one tap for each mystery of the Rosary, on the date stamped on your card. The water is available to all who come for it. What we've done is bring it to you.

The bottle sits on a bandana sun-bleached in the south of France, hand-strung alongside gemstone beads chosen for how they carry light. Nothing about it is mass-produced. This exact combination of water, cloth, stone and date exists once.

Your necklace comes with photographs taken at the source on the day the water was collected, the esplanade, the monument, the taps. A small record of a real moment at one of the most visited sacred sites on earth.
