In 1484, Queen Leonor of Portugal was traveling by carriage when she noticed peasants bathing in foul-smelling roadside water. She stopped. She asked. They told her the water healed.

She was a queen. She got in anyway.

The waters relieved her own ailment. The following year she sold her jewels, used her landholdings, and built a hospital on that exact spot and made it free to the sick and poor. From that single act of curiosity and compassion, an entire town grew. The hospital she founded, Hospital Termal Rainha D. Leonor, is still standing. Still treating. Still flowing. It is the oldest thermal hospital in the world.

Sulphurous, mineral-rich, warm from the earth at 35°C, this water smells unmistakably of the ground it comes from. It has been healing people for over five centuries. Sealed inside a small gemstone bottle, collected by hand at Largo Rainha Dona Leonor on the date stamped on your card, it now lives on a bandana sun-bleached in the south of France, strung alongside gemstone beads chosen for how they carry light.

Your necklace comes with photographs taken at the source on the day the water was collected. A small document of a real place, a real visit, a real moment.
